Course introduction, overview, and motivation. Review of static electric and magnetic fields and their properties. Coordinate systems, Vector operators. Maxwell's equations. Electric charges and currents, Maxwell's equations in differential and integral form, Material media, Boundary conditions at the interface between material media, The Maxwell equations in steady state, Power, and the Poynting theorem, Propagation of plane electromagnetic waves- The wave equations, Introduction to plane waves, Plane waves in ideal dielectric media, Plane waves in media with losses, Wave Propagation in Linear/Homogeneous/Isotropic Media and plasmas. Wave Propagation in Conducting Media, Dispersion Phenomena in Linear/Homogeneous/Isotropic Media. Plane wave polarization, Reflection and transmission of plane waves at the interface between material media. Electromagnetic Fields Associated with a Circular Parallel-Plate Capacitor and Waveguide. Waveguides and Guided EM Waves, Electromagnetic Radiation, Hertizian Dipole, Electric Dipole Radiation, Antenna Parameters-gain, directivity, radiation pattern, and bandwidth & returnloss Antenna Arrays- broadside and end fire arrays, Planar arrays, Introduction to transmission lines, Distributed transmission-line circuit model, General transmission-line equations in time, Wave characteristics on an infinite transmission line, Time-harmonic transmission-line equations, Propagation constant. Wave Characteristics on Finite Transmission Lines and Input Impedance.
